Common questions

A little clarity
goes a long way.

Have a question about your own invention?

Let’s start a conversation
Is a provisional application a granted patent?

No. A provisional application is not examined and does not itself become a granted patent. A corresponding nonprovisional application generally must be filed within 12 months to claim its earlier filing benefit. The details depend on your circumstances.

Should I get advice before sharing my invention?

Yes. Public disclosures can affect patent rights, including rights outside the United States. Discuss your disclosure plans and any past disclosures with a patent professional before publishing, pitching publicly, or launching.

What should I include in my first message?

Your name, the general field of your invention, what stage you are at, and any relevant dates. Please leave out confidential technical details until we agree how to share them securely.

Can I contact you about an existing application?

Yes. Let us know that you have an existing application and describe the kind of assistance you are seeking. Flag any upcoming response deadline in your initial message.
